La Chiapaneca
Some say that Chiapaneca's multi-layered hand-embroidered ball gown originated in Chiapa de Corzo, where it was influenced by Spanish styles hundreds of years before. Others say the ensemble was presented to Chiapa de Corzo in the late 1930s by a traveling theater company from Mexico City. Either way, the women walk the streets in this spectacular outfit with its huge flowers embroidered on a black net during the Fiesta Grande in January and accompany the Parachicos on their tours, sometimes dancing with them.
