Chilean and Mexican singer, songwriter, and painter Mon Laferte recently visited Yucatan with UNESCO and SEDECULTA to meet and mingle with Yucatecan embroiderers. The singer, who has two Latin Grammy awards, two MTV Europe music awards, and is twice nominated for Grammy awards, is also an embroiderer.

It was a special afternoon with discussion about the beauty and unique qualities of the embroidery traditions that are being carried on by the women. Lunch was served to the group and at one moment In the conversation after the meal Mon Laferte delighted everyone by singing passages from a few of her songs.

UNESCO and SEDECULTA are focused on safeguarding Yucatecan embroidery and working for its designation as intangible patrimony of Mexico, and for this MUREM is collaborating with the organization.
